Playlist size for live

Overview

This document provides a detailed explanation of the Playlist size (also known as DVR window) feature, including its purpose, usage, and configuration. This feature can be used either as a complement to Timeshift and startover for live or as a standalone option.

Playlist creation

Serverside.ai creates a dedicated playlist for each session on every new request. The playlist size is determined based on the channel configuration.

With the additional Growing Playlist configuration parameter, the playlist behavior can be controlled even further.

Configuration

The Playlist size is a channel-specific configuration for HLS and DASH live streams, set in seconds. The maximum allowed duration is one hour (3600 seconds) as limited by the administration UI. Reach out to your contact at Equativ if you require a longer duration.

By default, setting the value to 0 causes the server to read the content source playlist during channel creation and provide the corresponding server-side output.

When the Growing Playlist option is enabled, the output playlist gradually increases over time until it reaches the configured maximum size.

Any value higher than the source playlist size requires corresponding availability in the source content stream manifest.
