Set up dynamic pricing rules
Overview
Dynamic pricing rules let you activate smart, dynamic pricing directly in your ratecard. You can increase or decrease CPM or CPC floors based on specific dimensions to better manage pricing strategies while staying in control of your inventory monetization.
The following dimensions are available:
- Period, Brands, and Category for CPM.
- Period and Category for CPC.
You can create multiple pricing rules, use positive or negative adjustment values, and manage pricing dynamically over time. The system automatically applies eligible rules to guaranteed and sponsored product campaigns, including new line items and eligible existing line items that overlap with active pricing periods.
When multiple rules apply, the system calculates the final pricing according to the following order of precedence:
- Period
- Brand
- Category
This approach ensures consistent and automated pricing adjustments across campaigns and line items.
Example of period-based pricing
If you set up a pricing rule from January 1, 2025, through January 31, 2025, and a line item runs from January 15, 2025, through February 14, 2025, the system handles the pricing as follows:
- The system applies the new CPM from January 15, 2025, through January 31, 2025.
- The system doesn't apply the new CPM from February 1, 2025, through February 14, 2025.
Category rules
The system applies category rules to the entire line item that targets the specified category, which ensures consistent pricing across all impressions in that line item.
For example, if you create a rule that adds 20% to the TV category, and a line item targets both the TV category and the Sound & Speaker category, the system applies the new CPM to the entire line item. This application includes the Sound & Speaker category.
If a line item targets multiple categories regardless of the category level, the system applies the pricing rule with the highest value, as shown in the following table:
| Line item targeting | Rules | Applied pricing change |
|---|---|---|
| TV and Sound & Speaker | +20% on the TV category; -15% on the Sound & Speaker category | +20% CPM |
| TV and Sound & Speaker | +20% on the TV category; +15% on the Sound & Speaker category | +20% CPM |
| TV and Sound & Speaker | -20% on the TV category; -15% on the Sound & Speaker category | -15% CPM |
If a line item targets a category with an active rule and also targets another page type, such as a homepage, search page, universe page, or product detail page (PDP), the system applies the new pricing to the entire line item.
For example, if a pricing rule adds 20% to the TV category, and a line item targets the TV category and the keyword "TV" on a search page type, the system applies the rule to the entire line item, including the search page type.
Best practice: create a dedicated line item for inventory affected by an active rule so you don't affect other targeting.
Set up rule
To set up a dynamic ratecard rule, you must have the Business Manager user role. Rule names must be unique for each website (for example, "Rule brand X" and "Rule brand Y"). Two rules cannot share the same name.
To create a category, brand, or period rule, follow these steps:
- Log into the Kamino platform.
- From the left menu, select Administration > Rules.
- Click New rule.
- Enter values in the following fields:
- Name: enter a unique name for the rule.
- Value: enter the pricing adjustment value.
- CPX type: select the cost type.
- Time range: specify the active period.
- Brands: select the applicable brands.
- Select Add.

Once your rule is set up, it appears in the rules administration panel, which lets you view all active pricing strategies in a central location.
Manage rules
Edit rule
Once a rule is active, you can update its name or add and delete items from the list of brands or categories. These changes apply only to line items created after the rule is updated and have no retroactive effect on existing line items.
To edit the rule, on the Administration page, click the pencil icon next to the rule, make the changes, and then click Save changes.
Deactivate rule
You can deactivate a rule at any time, which moves the rule to the Inactive section. Deactivated rules remain associated with line items created before deactivation, which lets past deals keep their original pricing.
To deactivate a rule, on the Administration page, select Disable next to the rule.
