Manage format settings

Overview

Format settings define requirements for each format on your website. They let you adjust behavior to your needs and control how creatives are delivered.

You can configure settings for each format. Available options include:

Access

To access the Formats section, log in to the Kamino platform. Then, from the left-hand menu, select Administration > Formats.

All formats available for the selected website are displayed.

Filter and search formats

Above the formats list, you can refine the displayed formats using these tools:

  • Category filter: filter by Video, Display, Native, or Custom
    • To view all formats, select Video, Native, and Display (the default view).
    • To view only formats that have at least one custom setting enabled, use the is:custom filter.
    • To view only Video formats that have at least one custom setting enabled, select Video and apply the is:custom filter.
  • Search field: filter formats by name.

Manage custom settings by format

Custom settings let administrators add optional or mandatory elements to a format beyond its native, predefined settings. This allows you to tailor formats to your specific campaign needs without modifying the base format configuration.

Custom settings apply only when a user creates a creative or updates an existing one. They don't affect live creatives.

Displayed formats

Only formats that are assigned to at least one retailer grid section are displayed, regardless of whether they are active or inactive. Items are listed in alphabetical order.

Available custom settings

Depending on the format type, you can add the following custom settings to a format:

  • Add a button
  • Add a redirect
  • Add a second image
  • Add a title
  • Add a subtitle

Not all custom settings are available for every format. When you edit a format, only the custom settings associated with that format are displayed in the dropdown.

Extra configuration by asset type

Some custom settings support additional configuration fields. These fields are optional, so you can save without completing them.

Asset type Extra configuration
Button No extra configuration
Image Dimensions (height and width), maximum weight, and authorized file types
Redirect No extra configuration
Text Maximum character length
Video Maximum weight, ratio (16:9 or 9:16), authorized file types, and autoplay (yes or no)

Add custom setting to a format

To add a custom setting to a format, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the format you want to configure.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. Navigate to the element you want to customize: Background, Redirect, Button, or Title (Alt).
  4. From a dropdown, select a status for the setting: Active (Mandatory) or Active (Optional).
  5. If the setting has extra configuration (for example, dimensions for an image or maximum characters for a title), fill in the relevant fields.
  6. Click Save changes.

You can deactivate a custom setting at any time by changing its status to Inactive.

If you remove a format with custom settings from a grid section and later re-add it, the system restores its previous custom configuration automatically. Custom settings are saved separately and don't reset when you remove a format.

Multi-language websites: for multi-language websites, the custom setting status remains identical across all languages. You don't need to configure settings separately for each language.

Set maximum character limit for text fields by format

Setting a maximum character limit for text fields by format allows administrators to define the maximum number of characters for each text field within a format. This helps ensure that creative content follows format-specific requirements and supports consistency across campaigns.

To set a maximum character limit for text fields by format:

  1. Navigate to the format you want to configure.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. In the text field you want to limit, enter the desired character limit.
  4. Click Save changes.

This limit applies to both native and custom text fields. The value must be a whole number greater than or equal to 1. You can update the character limit at any time by editing the format.

Define image dimensions by format

You can define specific image dimensions (height and width) for each format that includes images. This lets you control the expected size of creative assets uploaded for a given format, which helps ensure visual consistency across your campaigns.

Dimension settings are optional. You can leave them blank if you don't need to enforce specific sizes. However, if you define the height, you must also define the width.

To define image dimensions by format:

  1. Navigate to the format you want to configure.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. In the Height and Width fields, enter the desired dimensions in pixels. Both fields must be filled if you enter a value in either one.
  4. Click Save changes.

Set maximum file size limits by asset type

You can define maximum file size limits for image and video assets at the format level. This helps ensure that creatives uploaded to your formats meet your size requirements, which keeps your campaigns optimized and consistent.

This setting's optional. You can save a format without defining any file size limits; it won't affect how the format works.

Supported asset types

Maximum file size limits can be defined for supported asset types. This helps control the size of uploaded creatives, and it ensures consistent handling of assets across campaigns. All values are expressed in megabytes (MB), and they must be whole numbers (integers).

You can configure limits as follows:

  • Image (native or custom): maximum allowed size is 64 MB
  • Video (native or custom): maximum allowed size is 64 MB

To set a maximum file size, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the format that you want to configure.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. For each image or video asset in the format, look for the Max weight field. Enter the maximum file size value in megabytes (MB). For video assets, the value must be between 1 and 64.
  4. Click Save changes.

Enable autoplay

Autoplay for video ads allows administrators to control whether video ads play automatically. To use this feature, the format must include a video component (native or custom).

To enable autoplay, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the format that you want to configure.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. Turn on the Autoplay toggle.
  4. Select Save changes.

Define minimum number of products by format

You can define the minimum number of in-stock products that each format needs to be eligible for delivery. Configure this threshold as an integer for each format and device type: Desktop, Web Mobile, and App (covering both iOS and Android).

When Kamino receives a fill-grid request during delivery, the delivery engine evaluates the number of in-stock products for each creative. It only selects creatives that meet or exceed the configured minimum for the requested format and device type. Creatives that don't meet the threshold aren't eligible for delivery. This ensures that ads show only when enough products are available, which helps maintain a high-quality user experience on the retailer's website.

The Min. products field is mandatory for all devices and is automatically set to 1 for newly added formats in the grid.

To set the minimum number of products for a format, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the format you want to configure.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. In Min. products > App, Web mobile, Desktop, enter a value for each device type.
  4. Click Save changes.

When an existing value is modified, active campaigns should be reviewed to ensure they continue to meet the updated threshold.

Manage accessibility options for creatives

Accessibility fields let you add descriptive text, that is, alt text, to images and videos within your ad creatives. This helps make your advertising content usable by people with visual or hearing impairments, and aligns with web accessibility best practices.

Role-based capabilities

The following table outlines role-specific capabilities for accessibility fields.

Role What you can do
Admin user Activate or deactivate accessibility fields for a format.
Campaign user Fill in accessibility text descriptions when creating creatives, if the feature is activated.

Accessibility fields are available on all formats that contain images or videos, which include native or custom formats, except ean-list and sword-native.

Fill in accessibility text during campaign creation

When accessibility is activated for the format you are using, you can optionally complete the following steps:

  1. Go through the campaign creation workflow as usual. For more information, see Create and manage campaigns
  2. At the Creative step, you will see a text field associated with each image or video asset.
  3. Enter a description of the asset in the text field. For example, enter a short description mid-sentence (for example, "A woman holding a product in a brightly lit kitchen") or write a full sentence (for example, "30-second product demo video showing the new packaging").

There’s no character limit, so you can write a description that is as detailed as necessary.

Best practices for writing accessibility text

Accessibility text helps describe visual content so it can be understood by all users. The following are best practices for writing accessibility text:

  • Be descriptive: describe what the image or video shows, not just what it is. For example, instead of “product image,” write “close-up of the XYZ shampoo bottle on a wooden shelf.”
  • Be concise but complete: use one or two clear sentences that fully describe the content.
  • For videos: summarize the main content or key message of the video.
  • Keep it relevant: focus on what the creative is intended to communicate to the user.
